Welcome to the website of author Debora L. Carr and the wacky, wonderful world of New Mexico, Here you can find out about Debora's latest literary projects and where to purchase them!

When Debora moved from her home state of New Jersey to Albuquerque in 2003, it did not take her long to discover that they did things differently in New Mexico... VERY differently. It was a bigger culture shock than she had anticipated and she found herself agog at the strange customs, the cuisine, the landscape and the inhabitants of her new home.

She began writing letters to friends and family back east, relating tales of her latest discoveries and adventures as she attempted to adjust to life in the wild west. Her 'Albu-Quirky Journals' were quite popular with her readers and many told her that she should write a book. After much consideration, she decided to to just that and soon published her first literary foray, "You Don't Need a Passport to Move to New Mexico", a tongue-in-cheek compilation of short stories based on her observations and experiences. Soon after that, she began work on her sequel, "Home on the Strange" which is currently scheduled for publication in 2010.

Debora's writing style has been influenced by her favorite authors; Mark Twain, James Thurber and Jean Shepherd. The facetious tone of some of her observations is reminiscent of Twain's acerbic humor, such as that of "Innocents Abroad" while her more personal experiences have the flavor of Thurber's and Shepherd's recounting of their early life adventures. Her fondness for things odd, quirky and bizarre was largely cultivated from reading the popular publication Weird NJ and the fact that it's co-editors started out merely distributing their home-printed newsletters amongst friends and family and then eventually branched out into wider publication inspired her to do the same with her own letters.
